Do you not say, 'Four months more, then comes the harvest'? But I tell you, look around you, and see how the fields are ripe for harvesting. John 4:35 (NRSV)
Jesus is trying to make a point. The disciples would say four more months, Jesus says right now! His concern is that the fields are ready now. Are we?
We need to look up from the familiar and see the fields. He wanted the disciples to be able to see these Samaritans coming to Him in a different light. They need something....a Savior. They don't need someone or something standing in the way of Truth....prejudice, pride, preconceived ideas. If Satan can keep us locked on the familiar we will never look up to see the fields (people) around us. This is one of the reasons it's so easy to do "mission" work in other place and so difficult to do it at home....the familiar. We have something to risk at home, but "there" no one knows me. The fear of risk...the fear of loss is powerful. It's one way Satan can influence us to stay "in our shells".
I have more to say about this, but for now let's begin to see the fields around us. Look Up! See the people around you today through the eyes of Jesus. Among a sea of familiar begin to see the fields. It was great counsel then, it's great counsel now.
Have A Great Day!
