Setting Our Hope (part 1)

Learning to trust in God , not in wealth, during this economic climate may be a hard lesson to learn. In the following verse Paul tells Timothy what to say to the people about money.

"As for those who in the present age are rich, command them not to be haughty, or to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but rather on God who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. 1 Tim 6:17 (NRSV)

We all, no matter the level of wealth, need to learn to detach from placing our hope in the "uncertainty of riches." One of the roadblocks for most Americans is defining rich. It seems to be defined as those who have more than I have and when we all use this definition the scripture never applies to us, it only applies to them.

This is ultimately a faith issue....a matter of the heart. Do we believe that God will provide what we need or does it take the sifting of an economic melt down to show us. I don't know about you, but I want to learn this lesson.

More to come........

  1. Deny, I really appreciate this post...to remind us that God is faithful, and capable of taking great care of us is definitely a blessing. Thank you bro.
As I was reading this I was reminded of Matthew 6:25-34 with special emphasis on verse 33...
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

God is able bro...thanks for the reminder!
