Setting Our Hope (part 2)

Let's face it, it's easy to focus on what we"have"....possessions. It's easy to feel that the accumulation of possessions is a protection. It's easy to feel that if you have wealth everything else will fall into place. It's also easy to feel that you can be devoted to wealth and the management of it and still be a devoted Christian (i.e. you can serve God and wealth). We live in a society that focuses on what you have, but our focus is to be on Christ. Establishing and maintaining relationship with Him is more important that what we posses. I'm not against having money, I'm against money having me.
Here are some Scriptures that highlight the importance of trusting in God not in wealth.
And my God will fully satisfy every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
Phil 4:19 (NRSV)

And he said to them, "Take care! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; for one's life does not consist in the abundance of possessions." Then he told them a parable: "The land of a rich man produced abundantly. And he thought to himself, 'What should I do, for I have no place to store my crops?' Then he said, 'I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.' But God said to him, 'You fool! This very night your life is being demanded of you. And the things you have prepared, whose will they be?' So it is with those who store up treasures for themselves but are not rich toward God." Luke 12:15-21 (NRSV)

"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal; but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matt 6:19-21 (NRSV)

The real question is, "Am I rich toward God?" Explore what you treasure and you'll find your heart.
More to come...........

Have a great day!

  1. Excellent and very convicting bro! Sometimes it's difficult and painful to truly look inside ourselves to see where our hearts are.
Thanks for pressing the issue a little, I need it.
