I love how God shows us all of the good and the bad in Scripture. We see people acting righteously and then the same people turn right around and really mess up. We see those who would seemingly not have a prayer of being used by God, being used by God. You gotta love God!
The story of David is a good case in point. A man after God's own heart who really does some incredibly stupid things. He acted in an ungodly way, but God wasn't done with him.
Maybe you've done some equally stupid, down right ungodly, things too. Great news! If you've been like David in the sinning department, you can follow his example out.....and God will use you too.
You can't bury guilt.
It's like trying to keep an inflated beach ball under water. The only way to do it is to keep on top of it, otherwise it shoots to the surface. Staying on top of your guilt is exhausting. It requires all of your attention. If you take your attention off of it, it shoots to the surface.
When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer.
Psalms 32:3-4 (NIV)

Here's the key..... The way out.
Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the LORD"-- and you forgave the guilt of my sin. Psalms 32:5 (NIV)
Notice what happened to the guilt.......gone.
Don't bury it.....confess it......then move on (with His help)!
