I Don't Deserve This!

One of the hardest things to learn about God is that he actually forgives me the first time I ask him. There's no, "now I'll have to think about this one", tone in his voice. Listen.....

For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more." Heb 8:12 (NIV)

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:7-9 (NIV)

Did you hear that? Forgive & remember no more. He is faithful and just and will forgive us and purify us. Now that's what I need and I need to start acting like I believe it!

So, the way this is made practical in my life is that when I recognize sin in me I ask for His forgiveness through Jesus. Then I live as if I am forgiven & have been purified. I do not beat myself up...that's a tool of the enemy! I do not keep a record of these wrongs...that's a tool of the enemy! I have been freed from sin! Now I have a responsibility to live like it. Confident in his forgiveness I meet with the Saints, I praise His name in song, I celebrate the Lord's Supper, I feed on His word and I am thankful. I live as if I had never sinned, realizing that He brought the sacrifice, all I contributed was my sin.

I don't deserve this grace, but thank God it's what He gives.

P.S. I have learned to not ask for forgiveness for the same sin event twice....it's a waste of time and a tool of the enemy.

Have A Great Day!
