According to their needs.....
This means we have to get to know one another. It fits nicely with John 13:34.
It's easy to know superficial things about one another. It takes effort to know some one's needs. It calls for us to be good listeners. If you really listen people they will tell you what they need. When our speech is according to the needs of others it is helpful and it will build them up.
No one wants a steady diet of sarcasm or criticism. That tears people down and it is an unwholesome way. If you can't be helpful in building the other person up.....take the opportunity to be silent. Take the opportunity to listen for what they really need.
Try spending time getting to know one another....then you will know just what to say and how to say it.
