It's What You Need!

If I could have any car it would be a 1955 Chevy. I've wanted one since I was a boy. I still find it difficult to drive by one with a for sale sign on it. I don't see it often, but boy when I do....
I had opportunity to buy one several years ago. I spent a long time looking and deciding. When I finally went back to purchase it I was told that someone had bought the car 20 minutes earlier. I was sick. I wanted to be angry with someone, but there was no one to blame but me.

It was a good lesson for me. I can live without all my wants being fulfilled.

Like most Americans, I never known what it is like to be in true need of something. Oh, I've said things like, "I'm starving to death", but I've never missed a meal because of lack of food. I've found myself wanting a new house and then I traveled through a "true poverty zone" in a foreign country and realized I live in a mansion! I have more clothes than I can wear in a week. I am blessed with income.

A person can go through life needing nothing, but wanting everything and making themselves miserable in the process!

Then Jesus said to his disciples: "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. 23 Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. 29 And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. 30 For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them.
Luke 12:22-23, 29-30 (NIV)
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Matt 6:33-34 (NIV)

First priority is seeking the Kingdom & His righteousness.

God knows what I need. I'm pretty sure I can live just fine without the '55 Chevy.
So I've learned.......
  • to admire the car
  • enjoy what I've been given
  • and most importantly seek the Kingdom & His righteousness
