A few days later, when Jesus again entered Capernaum, the people heard that he had come home. So many gathered that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them. Some men came, bringing to him a paralytic, carried by four of them. Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus and, after digging through it, lowered the mat the paralyzed man was lying on. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, "Son, your sins are forgiven."
Mark 2:1-5 (NIV)
I love this text because it reveals so much about the people involved. The four men carrying their paralyzed friend to Jesus must have loved their friend dearly. Once they made it to the house they didn't let the fact that it was impossible to get close stop them. I can see them ripping through the roof knowing that Jesus was able to do something. All they had to do was get their friend in front of Him. I can see Jesus as He was teaching and everyone hanging on His every word when all of a sudden pieces of the roof begin to drop in front of Him. Surely the Christ would be outraged that someone would have the nerve to do such a thing. They were interrupting His teaching. No doubt all of the attention in the room was now on the "hole in the roof gang" as they ripped a hole big enough to lower their friend through. What would Jesus do? Stand and wittiness faith in Him. All of the chaos in that moment was a lesson in faith. It can be seen. It was seen by Jesus. It should be seen by others.
Our actions tell our story. What we believe and how much we believe it. These men had it and put it into action. The result was the King witnessing something He could appreciate. Faith that motivates. Faith that can be seen.
What opportunities will today bring? I don't know, but I do know that faith or lack thereof can be seen. Jesus can see it and I would venture to say that others can too.
Do something Faith filled today!
