No So Fast!

In the last posting, "Drop the Stone", it may seem that the woman got away without any consequence. I am sure there are those who would like to see the text read in a way that "she got what was coming to her". The thing we have to remember is that Jesus can see the heart. He can see through the duplicity in people. In John 8 no one gets away with anything.

All of those guilty men walking away were thinking thoughts big enough to cause them to drop the stones. These were men trying to trap Jesus. Instead they realized something about what was trapping them. Their own sin.

The woman was as good as dead and she knew it. She was as guilty as the day is long. The Law called for her death. This woman is being used by these "religious giants". She was just a means to get Jesus. If they were not killing her that day then that meant they got their real target, Jesus. They saw her as expendable. Here's a question.....If she was caught in the very act, where was the man? Didn't the Law say something about him too?

So, no one got away without having going through a heart scan by Jesus. Everyone got just what they needed. You know this is true because it's Jesus dishing out just the right words (John 12:49). Now it's up to them as to what they do with it. How did this impact those men and how long did it have effect? Did the woman stop sinning as Jesus instructed her?

Here's the pay off. We are in this scene too. Either we are holding a stone in need of clarity from Christ or we are standing in front of Jesus, sin intact, needing saving and instruction. So, are you the guilty woman or the guilty men? The fact is we all need to be brought before Jesus for our betterment...our instruction....our saving.
