I have come to believe that the pain, trouble, and turmoil we experience in life is never intended to be wasted in isolation, self-pity, or turning inward. I know that the pain is real. That's the way some life events are. However, we don't have to live in that zone. It is possible to move through the pain, trouble, or turmoil. I have a saying that I use frequently in ugly situations. It was conceived in extreme pain during an event I like to call "The Great Kidney Stone Event of 1995". Many of you are in the club no doubt. More about that later. Anyway, here's the saying; "This too shall pass like a large kidney stone". Some events in life are just plain full of pain!
Without God's perspective our time spent going through a particular life experience can turn into nothing more than wasted time. Without God's help these situations have a huge opportunity to become nothing more than a wasted event in the course of life.
I believe God wants to help us see His perspective on things. Things usually are not as bleak as they seem in the moment. We may never stop to think in the middle of the painful event that God could use it for something good in our lives and the lives of others. But, God is able and willing to help us through it and use every ounce of pain for someone else's gain.
I think the key is being able to see the usefulness of these types of events as they are unfolding in our lives. If this can take place we are on our way to understanding God and His desire to help us.
Anyone can focus on the bad or negative and adopt a woe is me attitude. However, the person who understands that God is for them will be able to look for His perspective in the tougher moments of life.
Bad things happen to good people and good things happen to bad people. It's not always the most productive thing to constantly be asking why this, why now, why me? It is always better to ask, "I wonder how God will use this in the future to bless someone else?" Ponder this during the event and know that God is interested!
